*Please consult your GP if you suffer from recurring headaches.

How does it work?

Lines on your face form over time as the result of repeated muscle activity over many years. By injecting Botulinum toxin (BOTOX®) into these muscles, transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles is blocked. This causes these muscles to be less active, therefore creating a smoother, more youthful look.

How safe is the injections?

As long ago as 1978, was used as a treatment for patients with eye squints by weakening the overactive eye muscle.  It has been used in a variety of therapeutic areas such as spasmodic neck, writer’s cramp, tics, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy. It has been used cosmetically for more than 15 years and one full treatment dose is now considered as safe as a quarter of an aspirin!

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections FAQ’s

What does treatment involve?

A facial treatment can take between 15 – 20 minutes and involves several tiny injections with a very fine needle around the areas to be treated. To avoid bruising, do not take aspirin or anti-inflammatories prior to treatment. The treatment is not painful, with only minimal and brief discomfort, often described as an ‘insect sting’.  Following treatment you should avoid rubbing the area, strenuous exercise and alcohol for 12 hours. You should notice an improvement in treated areas within two weeks, with results lasting 3-4 months and sometimes up to 6 months. Maintenance treatment is likely to be required every 3-4 months during the first two years of having the treatment, with longer intervals between maintenance after two years’ treatment.

What exactly is it? How quickly will I see the results, and how long will it last?

There will be a noticeable improvement to the lines on your face within several days. Some people report an almost instant improvement. The product will continue to work for up to a month, and results typically last for 3-4 months. It is worth bearing in mind however, that results do vary from person to person. Should you stop having treatments, the lines on your face will gradually return to their state before any treatment.

Does it hurt a lot?

You may be heartened to learn that for a large majority of users, the treatment is uncomfortable rather than painful. Any discomfort felt is usually minimal and brief. Before we administer the injections, we prepare the area with a cold compress, which numbs it briefly. The entire procedure will not take longer than 10-15 minutes.

Is there any reason I shouldn’t have treatment?

We recommend that you don’t undergo any treatments whilst you are unwell or have any form of infection. If you know that you suffer from hypersensitivity to certain products, we recommend that you consult your GP prior to any treatment. Patients with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

What are the side effects?

The most common side effects include headaches, temporary eyelid droop, nausea and cold and flu-like symptoms. In rare instances, adverse reactions may include pain in the face and muscle weakness. These will usually occur within the first week post-treatment.

I’m worried that I’ll look very unnatural after treatment. Is this the case?

Although the results are visible, contrary to popular belief, the treatment will not make you look permanently surprised, or as if you have had too much plastic surgery. Injections will not radically alter your appearance, it will simply reduce muscle activity. You will still be able to frown or smile as you used to.

Do I have to be a certain age to have Injections?

It is generally thought to be safe to use in individuals aged between 18 and 65. If you have any queries about this or any other information, please contact Claire for an in depth consultation.

Dermal fillers FAQ’s

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers contain Hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance present in all living organisms. This is injected into the skin to smooth out any facial lines or wrinkles and achieve facial rejuvenation. At Clarity Medical Beauty we use Juvederm® and Bolotero® dermal filler treatments specific to the individual and area being treated.

What areas are commonly treated?

  • Nasolabial lines (nose to corner of mouth)
  • Marionette lines (mouth to chin)
  • Cheek Enhancements
  • Lip lines
  • Frown lines
  • Scars

How are dermal filler injections performed?

Dermal filler is injected into the skin in small amounts, using a very fine needle. We always ensure the appropriate anaesthetic is administered, in order to ensure the treatment is as pain free as possible. The treatment can last between 30-60 minutes and the results can be immediately visible.

Are there any side effects?

As Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the skin, side effects are minimal. Initial swelling or bruising may occur, however this should resolve within 24 – 48 hours. If lips are being treated, swelling may last longer.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Generally Dermal Fillers last in the region of 6 – 9 months, but this depends on the individual and site administered. Some newer Fillers sust as Juvederm Voluma and Juvederm Volbella can last up to 18 months!.
